DIESEL FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Heavy Equipment | Full-Time, Permanent | St. Clements, ON (Waterloo Region)
[Diesel Mechanic] [310T] [421A] [Red Seal] [Field Service Technician] [Heavy Equipment Mechanic] [Heavy Duty Technician] [Hydraulics] [Diagnostics] [Earthwork] [Civil Construction] [Waterloo Region]
Kieswetter Excavating has been doing heavy civil work in the Waterloo Region and beyond for four generations. Earthwork, concrete, pipe installation, demolitions, aggregates — we run a serious fleet of iron, and we need the person who keeps it moving. A field service diesel technician who goes where the work is.
What You're Actually Doing
You'll be the technical backbone of our fleet operations — working independently in the field and alongside our shop. This is a hands-on, mobile role. You'll carry a service truck, diagnostic tools, and the kind of judgment that comes from doing this for real.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrains, and air brake systems on heavy construction equipment and commercial transport vehicles
• Perform planned and unplanned field service calls — on site, on time, with minimal supervision
• Execute preventive maintenance schedules that keep equipment uptime high and warranty claims clean
• Operate advanced diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools across multiple equipment lines
• Complete work orders, service records, and documentation accurately — we run a tight shop and the paper trail matters
• Identify parts requirements, manage your vehicle inventory, and flag issues before they become failures
• Support equipment compliance with OHSA and Ministry of Labour inspection standards
• Collaborate with operators, project managers, and estimators — your read on machine health shapes project planning
Who We're Looking For
You don't need to have worked construction specifically — but you need to respect it. This work is real, the equipment is big, and the margin for error is small. We'd rather have someone who's honest about what they know and hungry to learn the rest than someone who bluffs their way through a diagnosis.
That said, here's what makes you a strong fit:
• 310T (Truck and Coach Technician), 421A (Heavy Duty Equipment Technician), or Red Seal certification — licensed or actively completing apprenticeship
• Solid working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical/electronic systems, and air brake systems
• Experience with diagnostic software
• Valid Class G driver's licence minimum; Class D with Air Brake endorsement is a strong advantage
• Ability to work independently in the field — you're organized, you communicate, you manage your time without someone looking over your shoulder
• Comfortable reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals
• Genuine safety mindset — you follow lockout/tagout, you do pre-use inspections, and you don't take shortcuts around moving equipment
Bonus points (not required):
• Familiarity with earthmoving equipment — excavators, dozers, graders, compactors, articulated trucks
• Experience with pipe installation or demolition equipment
• Welding or fabrication skills
