CAD Technician
Kieswetter Excavating is a fourth-generation, family-owned heavy civil contractor with over 90 years in business, delivering many of Waterloo Region's high-profile projects across excavating, grading, site servicing, sewer and watermain, earthwork, concrete, demolition, and aggregates. We're hiring a CAD Technician to support our field teams with grade control, layout, and site data — with some exposure to our estimating process as well.
The Role:
You'll be the point person for machine control files, drone-based site data, and layout accuracy across our active job sites, working closely with field supervision and our survey team. You'll also get some exposure to our estimating process along the way.
What You'll Do:
- Build and maintain GPS grade files and machine control models for field crews
- Fly and process drone surveys for site topography, volumes, and progress tracking
- Review site layouts and grading plans for accuracy against design drawings
- Support quality control on granular materials and aggregate placement
- Coordinate with survey and field supervision on staking, layout issues, and file updates as they come up
- Assist the estimating team with take-offs and drawing review from time to time
What You Bring:
- Experience with civil CAD software and GPS/machine control systems
- Drone survey experience; commercial (RPAS) pilot certificate an asset
- Comfort with granular/aggregate QC processes an asset
- Ability to read civil drawings and grading plans accurately
- Comfort working under field time pressure — files and layout checks often need fast turnaround
- Civil Engineering Technology diploma or related credential an asset, not required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; exposure to B2W (Bid2Win) an asset
- Reliable transportation and ability to work in a rural location
