For nearly 100 years we've built our reputation on excavating, site grading, site servicing, sewer and watermain installation, earthwork, concrete, demolition, and aggregates. We're looking for an experienced Bulk Excavator Operator to join our growing team.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Bulk Excavator Operator with strong bulk excavation and earth moving experience to join our heavy civil construction crew. The ideal candidate is comfortable working from cut/fill plans, understands grade and slope requirements, and can consistently hit daily production targets without sacrificing quality or safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate large excavators to perform bulk excavation, mass grading, and site stripping on civil construction projects.
- Read and work accurately from cut and fill drawings and grade stakes.
- Track and communicate daily production totals to supervisors and estimating staff.
- Load trucks efficiently, coordinate with haul crews, and manage material movement to maximize productivity.
- Perform pre-shift equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks.
- Identify and report underground utility conflicts, unstable ground conditions, or other site hazards.
- Work safely and cooperatively alongside labourers, surveyors, and other equipment operators.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with Kieswetter's health and safety program.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience operating a bulk/production excavator on heavy civil or earth moving projects.
- Demonstrated experience with cut/fill work, grading to design elevations, and mass excavation.
- Strong understanding of production rates and ability to consistently meet daily targets.
- Comfortable working from plans, grade stakes, and GPS/machine control systems (an asset).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and commitment to equipment care.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Team player with solid communication skills.
